Perhaps now is the best time for you to start a weight loss, fitness type blog.

Why?

Well, according to Wikipedia, a third of the world is overweight.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has actually labeled obesity a worldwide epidemic!

And the truth is, a majority of the over 2.1 billion overweight adults have camped online.

Looking for solutions.

And that’s where you come in…

So why not call your own bluff and start a weight loss blog answering their questions?

If you can help them, chances are you will be in the money.

The question is:

How do you do it?

That’s what we will discuss today.

Stage A: The preliminaries..

These tasks are not fun but they can make all the difference.

Prioritize them.  

1. Fine-tune your idea

For most bloggers, initially, you just have it as a rough idea.

However, to succeed in blogging, you need to have the specifics in place soonest.

And that’s why this step is so crucial.

Do quick research around the weight loss internet space and try to identify the market gaps.

Because these untapped gaps greatly amplify your probability of succeeding.

You can get fantastic ideas by looking at the current trends around the dieting and weight loss topic or by tweaking what the existing blogs are covering.

For example, now that a lot of lose weight blogs discuss the bloggers’ personal journeys, you may take the approach of doing live challenges just to give it a refreshing angle.

You can also visit some of the best-known weight loss blogs such as MindBodyGreen.com and WorkoutsForHome.com and pore over their reader’s feedback.

Note all the items with a significant number of requests or questions and evaluate each. You will then base your blog around the most promising.

In short, your competition could be a very good source of solid information on what’s working.

Mostly, it’s easier to hack it if you can adopt a narrower perspective than trying to conquer the immensely broad weight loss segment.

For instance, it’s easier to rank in Google for a highly segmented sub-niche like dash diet recipes for weight loss than for the gigantic weight loss niche.

Bottom-line?

Try to narrow down and be unique by seizing the gaps.

A word of caution:

Don’t take too long here lest your fears start pulling you back.

To quote Walt Disney ‘The best way to get going is to quit the talk and begin doing’.

2. Get a “Why?”

Assuming you have solidified your idea, now seek a “why?”.

You see, without knowing why you’re starting your weight loss blog, you can easily get distracted by negatives like a hurting comment from naysayers.

And don’t panic…

This happens to almost everyone when starting an internet business.

By the way, I almost abandoned my first website because my friends doubted that you could make money online.

But I knew I needed to free myself from my boring engineering day job so I brushed all criticism aside.

Similarly, your why gives you unshakeable belief.

And once you believe you can make it, not a single soul in the entire universe will persuade you otherwise.

3. Create a plan

You can have the very best blog idea…

…but if you don’t have a master plan, you’ll be on the highway to failure.

That’s why your #1 goal is to develop a perfect strategy.

Celebrated Spanish artist Pablo Picasso put it better:    

“We can only reach our goals through a vehicle (called) plan, in which you must fervently believe in, and upon which you must vigorously act. There’s no alternative route to success”.

Start by asking yourself these questions:

And so, whatever it takes, come up with a super SMART blueprint for your upcoming blog.

Then, write down your blog goals:

Well-chosen aims and objectives will point your new blog in the correct direction and keep you on track.

To get an idea, look at these goals to find insipration:

  • Increase my traffic by 6% monthly.
  • Publish at least 1 educative, inspirational, and empowering blog post on a weekly basis.
  • Publish one monthly ultimate guide on specific activities like preparing natural meals to help weight loss efforts.
  • Make connections with 2 influencers in the weight loss space (per month) from the 5th month.
  • Have my own product by the 6th month.

Eventually, you want to have goals (broad primary outcomes), strategies to achieve them, tactics, and more on everything including:

  • Monetization plans.
  • How to remain ahead of the chasing pack.

  • Traffic retention.

Now that you have a powerful foundation in place, it’s time to get down to the real business.

Shall we start?

You don’t want to become another Tom, Dick, or Harry. So, can you get a cool name?

And you never know.. You might be the next Netflix, Google, or Apple..

Even if your website doesn’t rise to be the next monolith, the name you slap on it will still have a huge say in your success.

Step 2: Register your domain name.

A domain name is simply an internet address that users will be using to access your website. 

Like I mentioned in my blog naming guide, most of the time it will be closely related to your chosen website name.

And so if you’re yet to, look up any of the countless domain name registrars and register your domain name. Alternatively, you can skip to step number three and go with a hosting company that provides everything. (This is what I always do with my sites)

Step 3: Buy web hosting

Next, lease a suitable web hosting package.

This is where your website files reside.

And since most website visitors are not patient (and won’t wait for a slow-loading site), it’s important that you pick the best blog hosting company.

Step 4: Install WordPress

WordPress is insanely easy to use.

I actually noticed that most of the renowned weight loss blogs are all using this blogging platform.

Here is how to install WordPress within moments.

Step 5: Install a Theme

Are you happy with your work so far?

Then it’s now time to install a relevant theme.

And as many die every year.

In fact, the New York Times has in the past suggested that a staggering 95% of blogs become white elephants at some point.

Some bloggers fail to appreciate that it takes gallons of sweat and bucketloads of patience to succeed.

In other words, you need to start building on the little that you’ve done so far.

Sure, you’ll have to put in a shift.

But again the bucks you can pocket makes it very worthwhile.

While the usual nuggets-rich content helps, you can accelerate your blog’s growth by “feeding” your readers a fresh and “balanced” content diet.

This is a tactic I have tested and it works like a charm.

  • Weekly/daily calories burning challenges.
  • Interviews with readers who have recorded dramatic success (using your recommended methods).
  • Breaking news on new healthy trends.

 2. Work on building credibility

Online audiences are warier when dealing with new bloggers, especially in highly emotional niches like weight loss.

And you can’t blame them considering that some dishonest fellows are known to give fake success experiences in an effort to make a quick buck.

That’s where your credibility comes in.

The following tips can help you look trustworthy..

  • Use your actual name and post your real pictures across your various blog pages.
  • Narrate truthful experiences and include personal insights in every post.
  •  Avoid making scandalous promises – don’t say “this will burn X calories in Y days” unless backed up by valid scientific data.
  • Keep quoting mentions you get from other websites whenever possible.
  • Publish real and in-depth reviews.
  • When it comes to monetizing, only recommend credible products(more on this shortly).

3. Market your blog like your life depended on it

Let’s face it.

In blogging, the money is in the numbers.

And so you have to crack the numbers game for your blog to finally free you from your monotonous 8-5 job.

There’s no special formula here.

Simply go out there and convince anyone who cares to listen to visit your life-changing website.

You can do this via social media, guest posting on other related websites, and even paying for Google Ads (once your finances allow).

Also, be SEO focused from the word go.

I personally prefer writing to influencers particularly when I have talked about them in my articles, requesting them to share my post with their audiences.

This sometimes lands me some massively powerful backlinks.

Such tactics mean more traffic (and possible cash) for you in the near future.

4. Monetize your blog

Introduce monetization streams as early as possible. After all, that extra penny can work wonders on your motivation.

You’ll earn a commission for every sale/subscription made through your link.

Try affiliate networks like CJ Affiliate, ClickBank, Share a Sale, and Flex Offers.

Well, I know many people are tempted to try and do everything by themselves and occasionally some really do succeed.

But as they say, money attracts money.

Plus some roles like SEO need a certain level of expertise so if you can, recruit a part-time SEO consultant at the opportune time.
